This page provides general educational information about gift card refund policies that consumers may encounter when purchasing gift cards from authorized retailers. This information is for educational purposes only.

Educational Information About Gift Card Refunds

When you purchase gift cards from authorized retailers (not from us), it's important to understand their refund policies. Gift cards from most retailers are generally non-refundable once purchased and activated. Due to the nature of digital gift cards and the risk of fraud, most gift card purchases are considered final by the issuing retailers.

When Retailers May Consider Refunds

When purchasing from authorized gift card retailers, refunds may be considered in the following situations:

Technical Errors

If you experience a technical error that prevents you from receiving or using a gift card you purchased from a retailer, contact the retailer directly to resolve the issue. Common technical issues may include:

  • Gift card not delivered due to system error
  • Invalid or non-functioning gift card code
  • Duplicate charges for the same transaction
  • Incorrect amount loaded onto the gift card

Unauthorized Transactions

If you believe a gift card purchase was made without your authorization, contact the retailer where the purchase was made immediately, as well as your bank or credit card company. They will investigate the matter and may issue a refund if fraud is confirmed.

Non-Delivery

If a digital gift card was not delivered within the expected timeframe and the issue cannot be resolved through redelivery, a refund may be issued.

Non-Refundable Situations

Refunds will generally NOT be issued in the following circumstances:

  • Change of mind after purchase
  • Gift card has been used or partially used
  • Gift card code has been shared with others
  • Incorrect recipient information provided by the purchaser
  • Lost or stolen gift cards (unless registered and reported immediately)
  • Buyer's remorse
  • Disputes about gift card terms and conditions that were disclosed at time of purchase

How to Request Refunds from Retailers

Steps to Request a Refund from Gift Card Issuers

If you purchased a gift card from an authorized retailer and need a refund, follow these general steps:

  1. Contact the gift card issuer or retailer as soon as possible after discovering the issue
  2. Provide your order information, including transaction date and amount
  3. Clearly explain the reason for your refund request
  4. Provide any supporting documentation (receipts, screenshots, etc.)
  5. Cooperate with their investigation if additional information is needed

Timeframe for Requests

Refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the original purchase date. Requests made after this period may not be considered, except in cases of ongoing technical issues or verified fraud.

Review Process

Once we receive your refund request:

  • We will acknowledge receipt of your request within 2 business days
  • We will review your request and may contact you for additional information
  • A decision will be made within 7-10 business days
  • You will be notified of the decision via email

Refund Methods

If your refund request is approved, the refund will be processed using the original payment method whenever possible. The timing of when you will receive your refund depends on your payment provider:

  • Credit cards: 5-10 business days
  • Debit cards: 5-10 business days
  • Other payment methods: as applicable per provider terms

Partial Refunds

In some cases, partial refunds may be issued. This may occur when:

  • A portion of the gift card has been used
  • An error affected only part of the transaction
  • A service fee or processing fee is non-refundable

Chargebacks

We encourage you to contact us directly to resolve any issues before initiating a chargeback with your payment provider. If you initiate a chargeback:

  • The disputed gift card will be immediately deactivated
  • We will provide evidence to your payment provider regarding the transaction
  • If the chargeback is found to be invalid, you may be responsible for the disputed amount plus any associated fees
  • Fraudulent chargebacks may result in account suspension and legal action

Exceptions and Special Circumstances

We reserve the right to make exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion. Special circumstances that may warrant consideration include:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Death of the purchaser or intended recipient
  • Natural disasters or other extraordinary events
  • Errors made by Gift Mehran staff

State-Specific Rights

Some states have specific laws regarding gift card refunds. These laws may provide additional rights beyond what is described in this policy. If state law provides you with greater rights, those rights will apply.

Promotional and Bonus Cards

Gift cards received as promotional items, bonuses, or complimentary gifts are not eligible for cash refunds. These cards have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit.
